Tim & the Glory Boys

It’s easy to get swept up in the feel-good, hand-raising joy of a Tim & The Glory Boys show. Or laugh along to their well-documented Letterkenny-like hoser escapades, be they in barns, on boats or gliding across frozen lakes. What’s most important though is that the British Columbia-by-way-of-Manitoba boys are making music from — and for — the heart.

"Love songs, there's not much fault you can find in them, especially in the wholesome variety that we're singing about," says Tim Neufeld, the Tim part of the band that also includes Glory Boys Colin Trask (dobro/percussionist) and Brenton Thorvaldson (banjo/guitar).

Formed in 2013, Tim & The Glory Boys call their boot-stompin' feel-good sound "canoegrass," a nod to both their bluegrass roots and the rustic country Canadiana the band have more recently begun exploring to great success. It's a sound that would fit comfortably in a playlist paired together with Morgan Wallen, U2, Old Dominion, Billie Eilish and The Doobie Brothers.

Expect to hear a lot more canoegrass on Tim & The Glory Boys the band's new self-titled album. The major label debut full-length album for Sony Canada (April 21 release date) includes an astounding five songs which have already hit the Top 40 at country radio and have generated almost 30 million streams worldwide. “When You Know You Know” has received gold certification for total listens, and three others — "Me Without You," Without A Prayer" and the summertime smash "Float" — have all hit the Top Ten on radio with the promise of more to come. The two-time Juno Award winners have also become mainstays at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards, having been nominated in 2021 for Group of the Year and Rising Star, and again in 2022 for Group of the Year.

The band's heartwarming newest single (March 10 release date) "Take Me Backroad ft High Valley" should earn even more support for the Boys. Featuring a guest spot from High Valley’s Brad Rempel, the song written by Rempel, Jon Nite (Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley) and Ben Stennis (Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Cody Johnson) is a joyful tale about getting back to one's happy place.

“‘Take Me Backroad’ is our homage to the dusty back roads and small towns that shaped us,” says Neufeld. “It’s a love letter to a simpler time and a reminder to always remember where you came from and is more than just a song to us, it’s a way of life. It’s about slowing down, soaking in the beauty of the countryside, and cherishing the memories we’ve made along the way. We hope this song takes our listeners on a nostalgic journey and reminds them of the magic that can be found in the simplest of moments.”

Adds Rempel, “’Take Me Backroad’ has a message that means so much to me. Tim & The Glory Boys sound incredible on it and I tried my best to not mess up the second verse.”

For hard-touring musicians like Tim & The Glory Boys — the band play up to 200 shows a year and have been known to do three sets in a day when called upon — the magic place their dusty roads lead to is home.

"It all comes down to having the guts to put it all on stage," says Neufeld, "but also way more than that, to have the guts to say something, to bring something to the table."
